Dry Tortugas Islands are the real beauty

I liked the town itself in Key West, but the boat trip to the Dry Tortugas Islands was what really left an impression on me, ok the sun felt like it was burning through my skin and the barracudas in the water scared me as a novice snorkeler, but there are times especially here in cloudy Vienna Austria that I really dream of being there again- espcially for the conch I ate there mmmmmm. My goal is to make it to the Caribbean, yet Key West did serve to give me a taste and if given the chance I would just maybe live there in fact or on one of the other lower keys...

Key West is a great place to get a taste of the caribbean. My husband is hooked on the conch fritters.
What part of the caribbean are you planning to get to first?

At first they tasted really too odd to eat, but then better and better and when I left I craved them for months...I hope to make it to several islands in fact- St. Martin, Anguilla, Cayman, etc. one day. :)

I got my diving certification in the Caymans....was so beautiful. I was on a Windjammer Barefoot cruise that ended in St. Martin and spent a few days there. So far my fav is St. Lucia and Nevis.

:P :P :P Well look who is boasting! ;) Sounds great, except for the diving- I am oddly really attracted by the ocean, yet in the same, petrified. I have also heard that Dominica is beautiful and similar to St. Lucia...

Yes Dominica is really nice and it is next door to St.Lucia.The people are also really nice. It's ironic that these people are so poor and their land is poor yet beautiful and expensive to us tourists, yet they are rich and giving in their hospitality.
            Am I boasting ;)

I was told by a waitress in The Raw Bar restaurant that the conch doesn't really have a flavor. What did it taste like?

Well it does have a slight taste, it is like eating a less flavorful clam with a texture likewise or like octopus, but sure the main flavor was added, marinated in some lime based sauce mmmmmmmmmmmm good. Well, I thought in fact that it would be great to live in southern Florida because it would be so easy to travel to the Caribbean...I may still one day. But, I suppose I should actually see what I have read about for years...I know most things about all the islands, yet have not visited...
