Re: greetings from Key West
Tue, August 3, 2004 - 7:47 PMI heard the island has been having a bit of a drought. I was raised there. Moved away when I was 19. Now I go back every couple christmases. I have a house near the southernmost point. Man It's been changing down there. But so is the whole country... I was down there for 4 months this last winter. My favorite part of Key West is out on the water and under it. And the surrounding islands.. What is everyone elses favorite thing about Key West!!!!! -

Re: greetings from Key West
Sun, August 8, 2004 - 6:09 AMyeah it was pretty dry when i was down there in may...didn't rain for the 10 days i was there but it finally did the day i left. I stayed at the Avalon which is right around the corner of the S.M.P.
my favorite part of keywest is the whole tropical atmosphere and the laidback attitude. i'm from CT and the "island" attitude is a nice change from the "it's all about me" attitude here in CT.
i also like the water...being on it...in it...and under it. -

Re: greetings from Key West
Fri, August 13, 2004 - 12:08 PMIt looks like it went west of the Keys and is... at this very moment bearing down on Ft Myers.
Ever hear about the story of The Grotto? Do ya think that Sister Gabriel is really protecting Key West from hurricanes?
It's freaky but ever since she died in 1948 any major hurricane has turned, missed, or caused NO major damage to the Key West! As did this one. -

Re: greetings from Key West
Fri, August 13, 2004 - 12:16 PMActually I'm not familiar with that tale. But Yeah it's true in my lifetime there has never been a storm that has caused any major harm to KW. I remember as a kid some storms where the streets were flodded and the winds were so strong you could throw a 2by4 up in the air and it would be wisked off. But never anything like Andrew did north of the island.. Key West has had extremly good luck.....
